The Stargate franchise is certainly industrious. The movie created SG1 which ran for over a decade and some 200 episodes. I liked it because it got funnier over time. Stargate Atlantis was a bit of a chore because it was too much like Star Trek Deep Space Nine. It was mainly about a single place and space shows should be about exploring new places every week.
Mercifully the SyFy Channel’s Stargate SGU is about exploring space again and this time they are way way out there. Like Star Trek Voyager they are so far out they may never get home. The scientist this time is a a British actor who I last saw trying to outrun zombies in the film 28 Months Later. There is a Seth Rogen clone acting as the computer nerd who is drafted and literally beamed out of his house after winning a computer game. There is of course a beautiful senator’s daughter. There are assorted soldiers that I’m sure will flesh out their roles with time.
The series has the potential to take elements from a proven franchise and take it in new directions.
