Words That Moved A Nation

Edited by Diane Ravitch

A long time ago students had to read speeches and other writings by famous people. You learned what people thought was important and how to write persuasively. This book does what textbooks used to do. I particularly enjoyed the spooky speech by Chief Seattle.
Highly recommended.
