On May 22, 2009 at the Cabana Crowne Plaza in Palo Alto the Vietnamese Strategic Ventures Network (VSVN) held the Annual Global Technology & Business Conference to talk about doing business in Vietnam. Vietnam’s economy has ben growing at about three percent a year while many countries are falling behind. Their regulated banking industry has not been as adversely affected as others. There is still a great demand for training in science and technology. They intend to become the Green Tiger of Asia by developing sustainable cities and businesses.

Dr. Cheemin Bo-Linn, CEO of Peritus Partners gave the keynote.

Huy Do of VSVN moderated panelists Mark Chandler of San Francisco Mayor’s Office of International Trade and Commerce, Khoa Do of DLA Piper, Hau Lam of VSource International, and Cecile Pham of Dacotex. The topic was “The Global Economic Crisis – What is at stake for Vietnam?”

Phac Le Tuan of Kinemo moderated panelists John Anner of East Meets West Foundation, Han Le of the University of Houston, Thuy Le of San Jose State University, Kathrin Moore of MooreUrban Design, and PR Yu of Optony. The topic was “The Green Tiger Initiative”.

Richard B. Dasher of Stanford moderated panelists Dr. Cheemin Bo-Linn of Peritus Partners, Andrew Clark of IBM, Phong Pho of US Dept of Commerce, Greg Pickrell of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, and De Tran of VTimes. The topic was “Economic Stimulus and Business Renewal – Anticipation and Preparation for Renewed Business Growth in Vietnam”.

Yu Hao Lin of VSVN moderated panelists Don Danh of East West Bank, Fred Greguras of K&L Gates, and Thuy Mai of DiCentral. The topic was “Investing in Vietnam”.

Lena Tran was on hand to talk about courses available at the University of Santa Cruz Extension for keeping your skills current. Lois Wong gave her business card in the beautiful red envelope seen below. You don’t forget a card like that.
