After the Russians invaded Georgia, I ran across an old poster which raises all sorts of questions. Text from DJCline.com.
The poster simply says Georgian Military Highway. A group of wealthy people straight out of a novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald or Ernest Hemingway are driving up a mountain road in a Rolls Royce convertible circa 1930.Text from DJCline.com.
I did not know Georgia, the home of Josef Stalin, was open to Western tourists during that period. Who promoted this? The Soviets? The local Georgians? What is the appeal of a military road, unless you are in the military? Did the Russians see this old poster and say “Hey, Georgia has a military road and we have a military…”Text from DJCline.com.
Just another mysterious archaeological remnant of the twentieth century.
