The Making Of Casablanca - Bogart, Bergman, And World War II
By Aljean Harmetz Text from DJCline.com
One reason the film Casablanca works so well is the cast. It works so well is because most of the cast really were refugees. It adds a sense of credibility when they all start singing Le Marseillaise. Harmetz goes through the background of each of actor and shows their roles were not a stretch.
The twists and turns of writing the screenplay are also revealed. There are several stories and styles that were woven by a four different writers. The result is something for everyone and very memorable lines. The cast looks like it doesn’t know what is going to happen because the scripts were still being written as the film was shot. As soon as the writers came up with the line “usual suspects” the rest of the movie fell into place. Recommended.
