As part of our 50th Anniversary, the STC Silicon Valley Chapter held a special event on Tuesday May 27, 2008 at the Computer History Museum. There was quite a crowd touring the exhibits, enjoying dinner and the awards ceremony for long time members. Text from DJCline.com.

Virginia Beecher and Guy Haas were recognized for their years of service on the chapter’s website. Viki Maki was recognized for her volunteering and elevation to STC Associate Fellow. Andrew Davis was recognized for his leadership, mentoring, and generous career guidance to the chapter’s jobseekers. We are grateful for his role as intermediator, ally, and reliable industry resource.

Museum restorers Lyle Bickley, Steve Russell and Peter Samson demonstrated a working DEC PDP-1. Designed and built fifty years ago it was one of the first computers to play games and music. They demonstrated the first game called Spacewars! They also played a Bach composition that was good enough to download on iTunes.

Senior Docent Ray Peck explained the history and operation of the Babbage Difference Engine No. 2. There was also a tour of the Visible Storage exhibit that stretched from a Chinese abacus to an Apple Newton.

Marc Weber of the Web History Center and longtime STC member was there to talk about his work with the museum.
