Free Stuff

You know a company is in trouble when it gives away free stuff. From DJCline.com

I go to a lot of events and invariably I come home with some promotional item. I don’t think I’ve bought a ball point pen in ten years. As I sorted through the pile of junk it dawned on me that all of these companies were in trouble. None of it would persuade me to buy their product.

I think at some point the marketing and promoting your company distracts from making a good product that people would buy regardless of advertising. Keep your eyes on the ball and not on the squishy toy you give away.
