On April 15, 2008 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, the EE Times held the ACE Awards. Comedian Craig Ferguson gave an energetic and cathartic performance. Text stolen from DJCline.com
It’s not widely known that Craig Ferguson worked for the old Burroughs computer company. He talked about shoveling coal into the machine and having it print one character on a check an hour later. They also insisted he show up for work.
Of course this was Glasgow Scotland in the 1970s. Given the choice between the street gangs depicted in A Clockwork Orange and a career in technology it was no contest. He described the city as Braveheart with polyester.
The police were as tough as the town. From his own experiences he thought terrorists must have been insane to come to Glasgow. He said last year when terrorists drove a perfectly good SUV in to the airport terminal and set themselves on fire, someone took the picture of the police wailing on the burning terrorist and put under the image “Welcome to Glasgow”.
Ferguson also talked about the dangers of turning into a banana and confirming his mother was not an octopus. To learn more, you had to be there. Recommended.
