Social Networking Not Working

Social Networking is ridiculously hot now.

People keep pitching their networking companies to me. While there are some good ideas most of them are a huge waste of time for me.

I already have a social network. Why would I turn over my Rolodex of hard won connections to the general public? I certainly don’t want my contacts being bothered by some stranger. At some point you would spend so much time monitoring your accounts on Facebook and LinkedIn that you would have no time to meet people in person. I do not need any more e-mail in my life.

There are limits and people in the field do not want to readily admit it. Even virtual reality groups still hold real world events.

At this point more money is made from running a social networking company than any connections you would make in social networking itself. The information you get in these things is highly dubious. You can’t stop laughing when a celebrity has an account with three million of her closest friends.

Perhaps there is some value in it, but I will wait for some time to pass before I waste my own time on it.
