A kid creates a college when he can’t get accepted to a real one. This is not Animal House or Revenge of the Nerds. It is better than Van Wilder. It has its moments. Lewis Black has many of them.
From a broader perspective, I cannot believe the pressure kids are under these days to perform like extracurricular seals and spew conventional wisdom like parrots with number two pencils. Having worked with people from all sorts of colleges, I don’t see consistent standards from one institution to the next. I’ve seen morons from big schools and geniuses from small schools. Their ability was there before they stepped on campus, leading me to believe that self-education is a necessity no matter where you go.
I walked away from the movie thinking how important that we accept people who are decidedly off the grid. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs never finished college, yet millions of students use their products everyday. Some remarkable people will never get to go and the world will be a poorer place if they cannot make their contribution.
